Number the pages of any PDF in a few clicks: pick where the numbers go, choose a format like “1 of 12” or “Page 1”, skip the cover, and download the numbered file. The PDF is paginated inside this browser tab — it is never uploaded to a server, and there is no sign-up or watermark.
Four presets cover most documents: “Page 1”, “1 of 5”, a plain “1”, and “- 1 -”. For anything else, choose Custom and write your own pattern with {n} for the page number and {total} for the page count — for example Report – page {n} of {total}.
Numbers are set in Helvetica, Courier, or Times Roman at 8 to 24 points, and the margin setting controls how far they sit from the edge of the page.
Skip First leaves the opening pages unnumbered — set it to 1 for a cover, or 3 for a cover plus a two-page table of contents. Numbering then begins on the first page after them, and skipped pages are left out of the total, so a 13-page report with a cover reads “1 of 12”.
Start From changes the first number. Use it when the PDF is one chapter of a longer document and should continue where the previous file ended.
Most online PDF paginators send your document to a server to process it. This one edits the file with your browser's own PDF engine, so contracts, reports, theses, and court filings never leave your device — and there is no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many PDFs you number.
Numbers are printed in black, in the same position on every numbered page — there are no alternating left/right positions for booklets, and no Roman numerals. Password-protected PDFs are rejected, so remove the password first. Each file can be up to 100 MB.
If you are numbering the same kind of document over and over — one per customer, student, or employee — the document itself is probably worth automating. Mergram's mail merge places fields on a PDF template once, connects a spreadsheet, and generates one personalized PDF per row. See PDF mail merge from Excel for how that works.
Yes. Adding page numbers is free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many PDFs you number.
No. The page numbers are added locally in your browser. Nothing is transmitted to a server, and closing the tab discards the file.
Set Skip First to 1. The cover stays unnumbered, the next page becomes page 1, and the cover is not counted in the total.
Yes. Choose the “1 of 5” preset, or choose Custom and enter Page {n} of {total}.
Open this page in any modern browser, drop the PDF in, pick a position and format, and click Add Numbers & Download. You don't need Acrobat or any other installed software, and the file never leaves your device.
You can leave the opening pages unnumbered with Skip First, for example a cover and a table of contents. Every page after them is numbered. To number a single section, split it out with the PDF merger and splitter first.
Yes. Numbers can go at the top or bottom of the page, aligned left, center, or right.
Not directly. Encrypted PDFs are rejected, so remove the password first and then add page numbers.
